DIY Natural Routine for Thinning Hair

My hair is thin and fine. It wasn’t as bad when I was younger, but it has thinned quite a bit as I’ve gotten older. I could have started Rogaine, but I wanted to find a more affordable and natural option. After much research and experimentation, I devised a power duo that seriously changed my hair and remained affordable. One thing I have noticed about natural treatments is that they can work, but consistency is essential. I follow this treatment every Saturday or Sunday. Sometimes, it helps to schedule your beauty treatment days on your calendar.

My Weekly Volume Boost Treatment: Rice Water

Rice water Is a treatment that comes from Japan and China. It is rich in amino acids and minerals, and has been observed to strengthen hair strands and contribute to a fuller appearance. Here’s how to make it:

The How-To:

  1. Add half a cup of plain white rice (I use long grain )and toss it into a regular Mason jar.
  2. Fill that jar with water and then just let it sit. I usually do this in the morning and let it hang out all day. You’ll see the water get cloudy – that’s what you want!
  3. In the evening strain the milky water into a clean bowl or container, leaving the rice behind.
  4. After you’ve shampooed and rinsed your hair, gently squeeze out the extra water.
  5. Now, slowly pour that rice water all over your hair, really focusing on getting it on your scalp. Give yourself a little massage with your fingertips.
  6. I just let it sit while I finish the rest of my shower routine. Think of it as a mini hair spa moment.
  7. Finally, rinse it out and follow up with your regular conditioner. Rinse that out too.

Doing this once a week has made a real difference in how strong and full my hair feels. It’s like a little weekly reset button for volume.

My Daily Root Revival: Enter the Mermaid Spray!

Next is a daily root spray, which is a combination of recipes I found on Pinterest called Mermaid spray. This is the variation of those recipes that has worked for me. It’s super easy to whip up and has been a game-changer for that instant lift, and even seems to be helping with overall thickness. I put this in a two-ounce glass Amber spray bottle. I make it about once a month . You may use more depending on the thickness of your hair. You don’t want to use so much that it makes your hair greasy; it does have a bit of oil, and the essential oils.

This spray has been a total game-changer for that instant lift at the roots. It makes my hair look and feel so much fuller throughout the day, and I’ve even noticed some new growth coming in.

So, there you have it – my not-so-secret weapon for getting new growth and volume for my fine hair. It’s a combo of a weekly rice water treatment for overall strength and fullness, and a daily root spray for that instant lift and potential regrowth. This routine has my hair looking so good, I have switched to only using natural styling products. I need very little in addition to the mermaid spray, but I do make a rose water sugar hairspray I will be sharing.
