History of My Muscle Rub

I have been a fitness-oriented person for about 20 years now. My main activities over the years have been going to the gym, lifting weights, doing yoga, and dancing. I went to the gym off and on for about 5 to 7 years before I really started learning about fitness and working out. I started lifting weights about 10 years ago. At that time, I started to get muscle soreness. I knew there had to be a way to combat it. I had previously researched essential oils for an on and off eczema problem I was having so I turned to the internet to research how essential oils could help muscle soreness.

I began to learn about making balms out of a few natural ingredients, including shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, grapeseed oil, and other oils. I did not want the balm to be as strong as Tiger Balm, I don’t always need that level of tingle. I wanted a milder combination of oils that would still work my sore muscles. After many months of trial and error I came up with 7 essential oils for my muscle rub.

      1. Lavender: Lavender essential oil has soothing properties that can help relax muscles and reduce muscle tension. It may also have analgesic properties, providing relief from muscle soreness and pain.

      1. Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus essential oil has a cooling effect on the skin and can help relieve muscle soreness and inflammation. Its analgesic properties may also help alleviate pain associated with muscle strains or overexertion.

      1. Wintergreen: Wintergreen essential oil contains a compound called methyl salicylate, which has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It can provide a warming sensation and relieve muscle pain and discomfort.

      1. Black pepper: Black pepper essential oil has warming properties and can stimulate circulation, promoting blood flow to sore muscles. It may help reduce muscle stiffness and provide relief from muscle cramps and spasms.

      1. Ginger: Ginger essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce muscle inflammation and pain. It may also improve blood circulation and aid in the recovery of sore muscles.

      1. Clove: Clove essential oil has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It can provide relief from muscle soreness and inflammation, promoting relaxation and easing discomfort.

      1. Rosemary: Rosemary essential oil has analgesic properties and can help relieve muscle pain and inflammation. It may also enhance circulation and promote muscle recovery after exercise or physical activity.

I tested the formulation on myself first. I would put the balm on at night after a shower and go to bed. I was ecstatic when the next morning my muscle soreness had decreased significantly. I especially like to use it on my feet, legs, shoulders and back. I then tested the formulation on friends and family and eventually to a group of professional dancers I was working with. The muscle balm was a success! Everyone loved that balm and stated that it really helped their muscle soreness. They even had some creative uses for it, one dancer stated that she put a small scoop in her bath water.

After that everyone encouraged me to make a business out of it and Raven’s Remedies was born. At first, I had the balm in jars, but now I have added it in stick formula for easy application. Available soon in my store.
