Balance and Change on Mabon
Entering the Autumn Equinox is my favorite time of year. It may or may not be because my birthday is on or near the beginning of Mabon, on September 23rd. It is a time of balance and change. Balancing the dark and the light. Changing from warmer to cooler weather, the harvest is ending. I have never done well in the heat, but suffered especially this summer. I had two bouts of heat exhaustion, which is linked to my entering perimenopause, so I am grateful for the weather cooling down. This year, I have had quite a large garden with plentiful kale, broccoli, tomatoes, eggplants, shishito peppers, Tabasco peppers, onions, and carrots. Having a garden has made me a better witch and more in tune with the Seasons. In past lives, while living in apartments, I was unable to manage growing herbs. That was a different place in my life. I was single, striving for more and more, and working as hard as I could at whatever job I had. Now, I have a house and a wonderful husband who has taught me about gardening. I have also been learning from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, which my grandpa bought every year. Life is about change, but much in society expects you to stay the same. Change is the only inevitable thing in life, but many fear it.
We must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. – Dune by Frank Herbert.
Much is changing with Raven’s Remedies. I am no longer seeking to sell products to others, but seeking to share knowledge. I will have a couple books coming out in the near future. I am also writing poetry again. Below is a poem for autumn. Please enjoy. Also, see my previous Mabon blog post here, which includes Wiccan lore and rituals.
